The seven-degree-of-freedom, ROS 2-based arm debuts at IROS 2026 as a fixed or mobile manipulation platform for robot learning and AI-driven research.

PAL Robotics has introduced the TIAGo Pro Arm, a standalone robotic manipulation platform aimed at researchers in robot learning, artificial intelligence and physical AI. The Barcelona-based company is presenting the system at IROS 2026, held September 27 to October 1 in Pittsburgh.

Key takeaways

  • Seven-degree-of-freedom arm built on ROS 2 and ros_control, incorporating PAL Robotics' Series Elastic Actuators.
  • Can be deployed as a fixed standalone unit in different mounting configurations or paired with mobile platforms, including the TIAGo Pro OMNI Base, for mobile manipulation research.
  • Open platform supports additional sensor integration, letting teams configure it for perception, robot learning and AI-driven manipulation from early experiments through deployment.
  • Demonstrated at the euROBIN final event at the European Parliament: Inria's Hucebot team used TIAGo Pro in a multi-robot "Breakfast Cleanup" task, identifying perishable food, opening a refrigerator, placing items inside and closing the door, while an IST Lisbon-operated TIAGo sorted rubbish.

PAL Robotics will also discuss its humanoid work, including the KANGAROO platform, whose locomotion was shown at the same event. CEO and co-founder Francesco Ferro framed the effort as a call for Europe to keep investing in robotics and collaborate around shared needs to sustain a strong manufacturing base. Founded in 2004, PAL Robotics develops humanoid, mobile manipulation and service robotics platforms for research and commercial use.
