What was reported
RoboCup 2025 took place in Salvador, Brazil from July 17 to 21, with over 250 teams from 37 countries. The event featured fully autonomous soccer matches using humanoid, wheeled, and simulated robots, alongside competitions in rescue, home service, and industrial robotics.
Organizers highlighted the soccer leagues as drivers for advances in real-time perception, planning, motion, and team coordination. The ultimate goal remains developing humanoid robots capable of defeating human FIFA World Cup champions by 2050.
Beyond soccer, the Rescue League tested robots in simulated disaster environments for navigation and victim detection; the Home League focused on household tasks and human interaction; and the Industrial League challenged mobile robots with logistics and manipulation tasks relevant to flexible automation. RoboCupJunior engaged students under 19.
With 112 major league research teams and 123 student teams, the event attracted over 1,500 competitors and up to 150,000 spectators. Livestreams were available on Twitch and YouTube.
