Serbian furniture maker Enterijer Mesicki deploys RoboDK-programmed Fanuc robots for automated milling and sanding, boosting precision and efficiency.

In context

In early 2025, Eastern European furniture manufacturers, known for artisanal woodworking, were increasingly adopting automation to meet global demand while preserving craftsmanship. Serbia, with its strategic location and skilled workforce, was emerging as a key player in modernized furniture production.

What was reported

Enterijer Mesicki, a Serbian furniture manufacturer established in 1992, developed a robotic cell combining Fanuc industrial robots with RoboDK simulation and programming software. The system supports three core applications: a belt sander for high-speed material removal (up to 21 m/s, pressure 300 g–20 kg), an orbital sander for fine finishing (six speeds, 5 mm oscillation), and a milling motor for precision cutting (12 kW, up to 24,000 rpm, automatic tool changing).

The company integrated its existing CAM tools (Alphacam and SolidCam) with RoboDK, highlighting the software's compatibility. Owner Zoran Mesicki noted RoboDK's role as a key link in the system. The cell aims to enhance precision, efficiency, and sustainability in furniture manufacturing, serving both domestic and export markets in Austria, Germany, and Bulgaria.

Future plans include adding curvilinear edge banding capabilities. The company is also developing robotic systems for Metalac_Inko, focusing on sanding composite bathroom fixtures.

Why it mattered

This deployment illustrates how accessible robot programming software and industrial robots can modernize traditional industries, enabling small and mid-sized manufacturers to automate complex tasks without sacrificing quality. It signals a broader trend of digital transformation in regional furniture production, potentially boosting Serbia's competitiveness in global markets.

“RoboDK is a key link in the system. I couldn’t imagine a system like this without it.”
