As Saudi Arabia prepares for a series of major international events through the 2030s, Riyadh has been building one of the world's largest public transport systems. The BACS consortium, led by Bechtel with local firms Almabani and Consolidated Contractors Company, and in collaboration with Siemens Mobility, has completed Riyadh Metro's Blue Line (Line 1) and Red Line (Line 2), spanning 64 kilometers. The lines are equipped with 67 Siemens Mobility Inspiro trains for fully automated, driverless operations.
Passenger service begins December 1 on the Blue Line and December 15 on the Red Line. Siemens Mobility also supplied the latest Communications-based Train Control System (CBTC) for both lines, enabling shorter headways and increased capacity. The project, which started construction in 2013, is part of a six-line, 176-kilometer metro network complemented by 842 buses.
Additionally, Siemens Mobility secured a separate service contract from Capital Metro Company (CAMCO), a joint venture between RATP Dev and SAPTCO, covering mobilization and three years of maintenance for its supplied systems and track infrastructure.
