Cyngn adds Alta Equipment Group to its dealer network to sell the autonomous DriveMod Tugger, expanding North American reach.

In context

In August 2024, the market for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in manufacturing and logistics was rapidly maturing, with vendors seeking broader distribution channels to scale deployments. Cyngn, a provider of autonomous vehicle technology, had recently launched its DriveMod Tugger and established a dealer network to accelerate adoption among industrial customers.

What was reported

Cyngn announced that Alta Equipment Group, a construction and material handling equipment distributor with annual sales exceeding $1 billion, would join its dealer network. Alta will sell Cyngn's DriveMod Tugger, which combines Cyngn's autonomous technology with Motrec's MT-160 industrial vehicle, known for high towing capacity and reliability.

The expansion follows the launch of the DriveMod Tugger and the Cyngn Dealer Network in fall 2023. Cyngn has been steadily growing its network, recently adding RobotLab, a robotics firm with over 10,000 robots deployed. Alta's decision came after a summit at Cyngn's Menlo Park headquarters, where executives experienced the AMRs firsthand.

Motrec's vice president of sales noted that several customers would benefit from the DriveMod Tugger, citing positive feedback from sales channels about introducing an automated version of the proven MT-160. Cyngn plans to continue expanding its dealer network with more distribution and integration partners.

Why it mattered

This move signaled a shift in how autonomous industrial vehicles reach the market—leveraging established equipment dealers rather than direct sales alone. For manufacturers, it meant easier access to automation through familiar channels, potentially accelerating adoption of AMRs in material handling and logistics.

“With their extensive dealer coverage across North America, we are excited to equip Alta with the tools and training needed to offer our self-driving industrial vehicles to their customers.”
