Clevon, an autonomous delivery innovator, announced it had delivered nearly 1,500 packages for DHL Express Estonia since their partnership began in summer 2022. The pilot, which started with internal package transport between three Tallinn offices, expanded to business customers and later to private customers, becoming a regular service.
The third-generation Autonomous Robot Carrier (ARC) operates on all business days across Tallinn, including the historic Old Town, where it is allowed unrestricted access in collaboration with the city. The fully electric ARC reduces noise and air pollution in the UNESCO-listed area. Over the year, one ARC transported more than 1,200 parcels and traveled over 4,400 miles (7,000 km) through all four seasons.
The partners tested various service models, including a “flower” model that combines middle-mile van transport with last-mile robot delivery. This approach reduces empty trips and improves efficiency. DHL Express Estonia’s managing director, Kristina Laaneots, emphasized that the goal is not to replace human couriers but to let robots handle more deliveries while humans focus on premium services.
“Finding people for courier work is increasingly difficult, but we see an opportunity here for them to focus on offering premium services at a fair price while self-driving robots can help us deliver more packages faster.”
