In September 2023, as Europe accelerated its shift toward sustainable transport, Norway stood out with the world's highest per-capita electric vehicle adoption and new national targets requiring all new heavy vehicles to be zero-emission by 2040. Despite this leadership, heavy-duty trucks still contributed nearly 9% of Norway's CO2 emissions—about 4.4 million tonnes—highlighting a critical gap that freight electrification needed to fill.

Einride, a provider of digital, electric, and autonomous freight solutions, launched its operations in Norway, its eighth market. The company partnered with PostNord, which handles 35% of Scandinavian postal shipments, to electrify routes covering more than 1,500 km per day that previously ran on fossil fuels. This shift is projected to cut CO2 emissions by up to 95% compared to diesel trucks, equivalent to eliminating 2,100 tonnes of CO2 over three years.
The deployment extends Einride's Nordic Link grid, first unveiled in 2022, connecting strategic locations in the Oslo region and expanding southward along the E6 highway to link Norway, Sweden, and eventually Denmark. Einride will manage all logistics touchpoints—software, charging infrastructure, and maintenance—using its Saga platform to optimize grid operations and minimize delays from recharging or driver changes. The company also plans to establish its own charging stations, called Einride Stations, along the grid.
Additionally, Einride is advancing the MODI project, a €28M EU-funded initiative coordinated by ITS Norway, where its autonomous vehicles will cross country borders for the first time on a selected portion of the E6 between Gothenburg and Oslo. First demonstrations are slated for 2025.
